Villas in Porto Azzurro
Don't be surprised if looking at a telephone book of Porto Azzurro, you will think to be in Castile; this marvellous sea village in fact, was built as a Spanish fortress in the 17th century and the huge walls of Forte San Giacomo that still dominate the town, are the most obvious evidence. Also in the inland of this Iberian settlement on the island of Elba, it is possible to discover other Spanish details, like in the facades of some old country homes that, even if built after the Spanish settlement, are obviously inspired to that style. After all, the territory of Porto Azzurro is different from other parts of the island of Elba, perhaps with regards to the red jasper hills that shelter it from northern winds, the Romanic sanctuary of Madonna di Monserrato, built on live rock and embedded in the wild jasper nature and Mediterranean vegetation, its red earth that recalls a living being, the large bay of Mola bordering Forte San Giacomo on the north side and Forte Focardo on the north side; there are many peculiarities that render this territory unique despite being very small (13 square km) and with a modest population (3,600 residents).\r\nRenting a holiday villa, flat or home in Porto Azzurro will be a pleasant experience also for all these peculiarities of its territory, in addition to be located near many charming beaches and marine areas. The holiday villas in particular, and the holiday homes in Porto Azzurro are located just outside town, but if you consider the town area of 13 square km, these residences are anyhow nearby town and its beautiful amenities.
